Certificate in Public Safety (Pre-Hospital Emergency Care Technician)
Overview:
The Certificate in Public Safety (Pre-Hospital Emergency Care Technician) is a robust certification for those providing response to emergency medical incidents. Also known as Emergency Medical Technicians, graduates of this certification are able to provide basic life support using oxygen and oral/nasal airways, and have additional skills beyond the Emergency Medical Responder with the ability to provide a wider scope of practice and provide care while patients are being transported by ambulance.
A key aspect to PHECT® is that it is the first ISO17024:2012 compliant certification to meet the World Health Organization PHEC Guideline for Pre-Hospital Providers – Basic (PPB).
Entry Requirements:
Mininum of 150 hours clinical education by Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) or Registered Medical Practitioner (MD) consistent with PHECT® or NREMT EMT syllabus.

Requirements:
Part A: Theory Examination
The candidate must complete a supervised closed book examination to meet Part A requirements of this certification standard.
Part B: Skills Assessment
Following sucessful attainment of Part A and within 6 months of completing such, the candiate must complete a practical assessment with a registered IPSQA Assessor against the skills (psychomotor) requirements of the certification standard.
Part C: Supervised Clinical Experience
Following sucessful attainment of Part B and within 12 months of completing such, the candiate must submit a verified portfolio of evidence that demonstates real-world experience of emegency medical responder with a minimum of 200 clincial hours recorded after the completion of Part B. This portfolio is assessed by an assessor not domiciled in the same country as the candidate under our Foreign Interference Protection.
Recognition of Prior Learning
Candidates who have completed the NREMT EMT Examination or higher, can apply for Recognition of Prior Learning for cross crediting Part A (Examination) requirements.
Candidates can also apply for Recognition of Prior Learning for CorePass® First Aid III (Advanced) directly to an IPSQA Accredited Testing Centre.
Approved References:
Assessment must be conducted in accordance with approved references, that include the AAOS Emergency Care and Transport text and resources; and the World Health Organization Pre-Hospital Emergency Care: Operational Guidance for Ambulance Systems.
Restricted Titles:
Some countries including Ireland, regulate the title “Emergency Medical Technician” and restrict its use under local law. Always seek local legal advice on the use of any health related position title before use.
